FAQs
Public and private investments can play complementary roles in a portfolio. Public markets can provide liquidity, transparency and broad market exposure, while private markets can offer access to opportunities and sources of return not always available through listed securities. The appropriate mix will depend on investment objectives, time horizon, liquidity needs and risk tolerance.
Private markets can broaden the investment opportunity set through areas such as private equity, private credit, real estate and infrastructure. They may provide differentiated sources of return and income, although investors should also consider their longer investment horizons, lower liquidity and distinct risk characteristics.
Income opportunities can extend well beyond traditional bonds. Depending on market conditions and investor objectives, income may be sought across fixed income, equities, multi-asset strategies and alternative investments. A broader approach can help investors diversify their sources of income rather than relying on a single asset class.
ETFs combine the diversification of a fund with the flexibility of exchange trading. They can provide efficient access to broad markets, individual asset classes or more targeted investment themes, giving investors another way to implement portfolio views and adjust exposures as their needs evolve. ETFs are subject to market risk, and investment values may fluctuate. There is no guarantee that investors will recover the full amount invested.
Rather than focusing solely on today's technology leaders, investors can look across industries for companies enabling or benefiting from structural change. Areas such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity, digital commerce and biotechnology can create opportunities across different parts of the economy. Active research can help distinguish enduring investment themes from shorter-term market enthusiasm.
Investment capabilities are only part of the equation. Investors may also consider the depth and experience of the investment teams, resources available for research and risk management, breadth of strategies, global reach and the manager's experience through different market cycles. Franklin Templeton combines specialist investment expertise with the resources and breadth of a global investment platform.
